African American History Month: Resources for the Green Book for Negro Motorists.

It looks like we will see this year a substantial burst of attention to the annual "Green Book for Negro Motorists" used by African American motorists/travelers from the late 30s until the 1960s.

There is a documentary HERE planned for a 2018 release.

There is a major motion picture that is in production; more information HERE

The New York public library has digitized many of the annual Green Books and they can be found HERE

I posted below a picture with the places within Portland from the 1948 edition ( 70 years ago); it would be fascinating to see if any of these 10 places still exist).

The site HERE has a searchable database that shows locations on a Google map from the 1956 edition of the Green Book. There are only 3 locations listed for Portland.

In 2014, Peter Pappas, an educator at the University of Portland wrote an article about the Green Book HERE , calling it Segregated America's Trip Advisor

The Internet Archive has a PDF version of the 1949 Green Book HERE

Finally, the Green Books Wikipedia site is HERE.
