On Dec. 14,2007 the Senate finally got around to passing their version of the FHA reform bill, S.2338.
The House has passed their version of the bill, H.R.1852, much earlier on Sept. 18, 2007.
So it's been nearly 5 months since the House bill passed and 2 months since the Senate passage.
Editorial Comment: Where IS the conference committee? Makes you wonder just how serious anyone is about dealing with current housing problems, no?

The Economic Stimulus Plan got priority, but some issues in the FHA Reform Bill were discussed prior to the House Stimulus Plan going back to the Senate, like the FHA loan limits and the affordable housing fund. Many House & Senate members thought that the Stimulus Plan was going to include the FHA Reform Bill. Even without an official conference committee, many key issues have been addressed. We know that the Senate is willing to go over $417,000 and that Barney Frank will drop the affordable housing fund. Passage could be closer then we think.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy, The congress makes big noise about how much they care about the housing crises and the american familys that are losing there share of the American Dream. And then they just sit on there hands. How is it that today half the congressmen in Washington are involved in a hearing about something so inportant to the American people as baseball, something that concerns use of a substance that was not and still is not illegal when and if it was used. Is this what are Government really believes the American people elected them to do. I am beside myself the housing crises terrorism the war in Iraq the economy and thr yes reccession that no one wants to deal with and our great elected officials can't wait to either charge Roger Clemons or get a photo opp with him . What I ask you have we come to and more inportant where are we headed.
ReplyDeletePlease take the time to write you Senators and express your fustrations. Please tell them to push for S2338 & H.R.1852 on both sides of the floor. I've ended my emails to them, to pass these bills onto the President, that I am desperate!
ReplyDeleteThese bills were as important as the Stimulus package. This is really the first time I have every contacted my congressmen & senators, I am amazed of the dragging of the feet on something so important. These FHA caps have to be increased. I hope John's comments are right, that Passage could be closer than we think. Pls take the time to flood your Senators with emails for Passage of 3448 & H.R.1852
