Off Topic: Cost for US Trooper in Afghanistan? $1 Million a Year.

I did the math after I heard an estimate yesterday on the tube, and the story HERE confirms my calculations.

(I suspect that this may still not completely reflect long term costs per soldier for disability, health care, veterans benefits etc).

  1. Here is a related calculation that was shared on Bill Moyer's show last week:

"Whatever the total for Afghanistan, every additional thousand troops will cost us about a billion dollars a year. At a time when foreclosures are rising, benefits for the unemployed are running out, cities are firing teachers, closing libraries and cutting essential maintenance and services. That sound you hear is the ripping of our social fabric."
