Oregon Unemployment Insurance Average Available for Housing Expenses Has Been $628 Monthly : But Loss of $600 Supplement Would Cut That to $232.

From March 15 to July 4 a total of $2.67 billion in unemployment insurance benefits have been paid to 290,000 Oregonians.

After taxes (assumed 6% rate) that's :
  • $2.2 Billion in NET unemployment benefits.
  • $607 Million NET per month
  • $7,734 NET per person after taxes
  • $2,095 NET per person per month after taxes
  • $483 NET per person per week after taxes
NET Amounts Available for Housing Expense, AFTER Taxes: $673 Million; Average of $628 Per Person Per Month
Using 30% of UI income for housing (with a 16% tax assumption) UI has made these amounts available for housing expenses:
  • $673 million NET
  • $182 Million NET per month
  • $2,095 NET per person.
  • $628 NET per person per month.
  • $145 NET per person per week
BAD News, Loss of $600 Supplement Cuts Unemployment Insurance Benefits by 63%
63% of all Oregon unemployment insurance during this period has been from the $600 supplemental unemployment insurance program (FPUC). That program is scheduled to end on July 25, 11 days from now.

The table below shows the devastating impact that FPUC termination would have on unemployment insurance benefits, including the NET amounts available for housing expenses.

  • Instead of NET benefits of $2,095 per month, NET unemployment insurance benefits would drop to $923.
  • Instead of $628 NET per month available from UI for housing expenses, the amount available would drop by $396 to $232.

Note that per person amounts shown are averages across all unemployment insurance programs. Average amounts will vary depending on program; workshare, part time, and PUA programs generally will have lower average UI benefits.
