NYT On Cuomo's Tenure at HUD Misses Boat by Focusing ONLY on Homeownership.

Telling that there is virtually NO discussion of rental housing program expansions (primarily "incremental" and "welfare to work" vouchers) under Cuomo; this was clearly one of his biggest accomplishments as HUD Secretary.

Whether one "liked" his personal style there is no doubt that under Cuomo both HUD and Oregon saw the largest expansions in HUD rental assistance in the last 30 years.

Look for Monday Supreme Court Decision on State Regulation of Mortgage Lending.

With end of this Supreme Court session tomorrow, lots of attention will be paid to appeal from prior Sotomayor reverse discrimination decision.

Of greater housing impact (and perhaps on state regulation in general) will be the decision on case (Cuomo vs Clearing House Association) involving state mortgage regulation.

Former HUD'ster Named as NY Senator.

No, it wasn't Andrew Cuomo, the former HUD Secretary.

Turns out that newly named NY Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, worked for Cuomo at HUD during the 1990's according to Wikipedia:

""During the Clinton Administration, Gillibrand served as Special Counsel to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Andrew Cuomo. She worked on HUD's Labor Initiative and its New Markets Initiative, on strengthening Davis-Bacon Act enforcement, and on drafting new markets legislation for public and private investment in building infrastructure in lower income areas."

(Cuomo managed to be unavailable for big pic opportunity and press conference where Gillibrand was introduced on Friday).

Don't Bet Against Cuomo.

NY Times story HERE speculates about former HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo being appointed to Senate seat to be vacated by likely appointment of Senator Clinton to Secretary of State.

Since he was also a long shot when appointed to the Secretary of HUD, I would not bet against his appointment to the Senate; and on the other hand he could vary well end up being appointed to some other position at the national level. (Recall that Senator McCain touted him as SEC chair in a McCain administration).
