Portland State Gets HUD $75k Choice Neighborhoods Research Grant.

PSU principal investigator for research grant is Matthew Gebhardt.

With Washington State Department of Social and Health Services getting another $175k, NW grantees got half of the $500k awarded and the total research grants (4). 

HUD Choice Neighborhoods website is HERE. (The only HUD Choice Neighborhood Implemenation or Planning grant in the NW is in Seattle).

Updated:Audio/Video from Panel at Today's House Hearing on Choice Neighborhoods Legislation.

Updated: Alert that I noticed that the video has some synch issues between sound and video. Not sure why this is happening, and no easy way to correct, so keep that in mind before you download.

Some skeptics, and some supporters in this panel that followed the Secretary's lead off testimony that was the subject of my earlier post.

Committee members also expressed some skepticism in their questioning, especially Subcommittee Chair Maxine Waters.

One of primary concerns seemed to be that HUD dollars could end up spending for things other than housing, and that other federal commitments are necessary for education, etc. Another concern expressed was the lack of specificity about what would qualify as a"Choice Neighborhood".

Choice Neighborhood House Hearing Today: Legislative Text, Consolidated Testimony, Audio Tease.

I have consolidated into a single PDF file HERE all of the prepared testimony from today's House Financial Services Committee hearing on the HUD Choice Neighborhood legislative proposal (NLIHC has latest version of the proposed legislation HERE).

Tease: HERE is MP3 audio of questions to and answers from HUD Secretary Donovan at the hearing; once full hearing recording is posted tomorrow,I hope to have audio of entire hearing posted.
