I'm getting towards the end of my posting of Diversity Index scores for different Oregon geographies (I will do a post at the end of month with a consolidated list of all posts with Census 2010 diversity index data).
[A racial and ethnic diversity index represents the probability that two people chosen at random in a geographic area would be of a different race or ethnicity (on a 0-100 scale)].

This is a post of race, ethnicity, Diversity Index, and housing vacancy data for 19 Oregon Metro and Micropolitan areas, using Census 2010 data. (Wikipedia's Micropolitan area definition HERE includes link to Metropolitan area definition also).
The two page table I constructed is HERE.

Some observations:
Diversity Index Scores
- Among 6 Oregon metro areas Salem ranked highest and the Portland Metro area ranked second.
- Among 13 Oregon Micropolitan areas , Hood River ranked highest. Hood River also ranked #1 among ALL 19 Metro and Micropolitan areas in Oregon.
- Out of 19 Metro/Micropolitan areas in Oregon only 6 have Diversity Index scores higher than the statewide average.
Vacancy rates
- Among 6 Oregon metro areas, Bend had the highest vacancy rate at 20%, the Portland Metro area ranks 5th at 6.2%. Corvallis had the LOWEST Metro vacancy rate and also the LOWEST among all 19 Metro and Micropolitan areas in Oregon.
- Among 13 Oregon Micropolitan areas, Astoria had the highest vacancy rate at 26.9%.
- Note that for the Census second/vacation homes are shown as vacant; this elevates vacancy rates in areas with larger numbers of second homes. Future Census 2010 data releases may have second home information that can be used to more precisely calculate vacancy rates on housing units for full time residents.
