Oregon VASH Voucher Use Up by 44%/446 Units in 1 Year; Growth Rate Same Inside and Outside Portland Metro

I recently downloaded HUD voucher use data through March of 2016 and combined it with HUD voucher data going back to October of 2014.

Focusing first on HUD VASH vouchers for homeless veterans the table below shows by selected months how many VASH vouchers were in use by Oregon PHA.

Observations:
  • As of March 31st 2016, there were 1,449 VASH vouchers in use in Oregon, up from 1,038 in March of 2015.
  • Oregon VASH voucher use from March 2015 to March 2016 increased by 44%/446 vouchers.
  • The 185 voucher 1 year growth in VASH vouchers in the 3 county Portland metro area (Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington) was also 44%, meaning that the increased use of VASH vouchers in Oregon outside of the 3 county Portland metro has been at the same rate as within the Portland metro.
  • As of March 31st 2016, there were 1,449 VASH vouchers in use in Oregon, up from 1,038 in March of 2015.
  • There are 6 PHA's in Oregon who are NOT yet participating in the VASH program.
