Oregon African American Homeownership Rate is 26% BELOW What It Was 75+ Years Ago.

The Excel table I created HERE and embedded below tracks the Oregon African American homeownership rate by decade and compares those rates to the most recent ACS 2012-2016 African American homeownership rate.

Short version, the current Oregon African American home ownership rate does NOT reach the level of ANY prior decade. The current 31.3% rate is 26% below where it was in 1940 (75+ years ago) and 30% below the highest reported census rate of 44.5% in 1970.

(Not shown: Oregon's white homeownership rate increased by 16% from 55.6% in 1940 to 64.7% in 2012-2016.

HB 4010 (passed by the Oregon legislature in the most recent session) creates a task force and provides a fresh opportunity to develop NEW ways to address, TRACK, and SUSTAIN progress on this issue (including a renewed focus on homeownership rates for other minorities).
