Oregon First 9 Weeks of 2021, CONTINUING Unemployment Insurance Claims: 67% Increase in Pandemic Programs, 31% Decline in Regular Programs, Net Increase 24%.

In the first 9 weeks of 2021 weekly Oregon continuing unemployment insurance claims from ALL unemployment insurance programs are UP by 75,000/24%, from about 311,000 to 386,000.

This occurred even though continuing claims under the regular unemployment insurance program fell by about 33,000/31%, from 99,000 to 66,000.

The share of all continuing claims coming from regular unemployment insurance has dropped from 32% to a new record low of 18% and: 
  • Extended Benefit program continuing claims are triggering off to zero; YTD they are down by nearly 22,000. 
  • PUA and PEUC program continued claims are up 127,000/67% from a combined 189,000 to 316,000 continuing claims. [Week 9 saw a big (74K) increase from prior week in PUA continuing claims; it will bear watching to see if this was one time increase or whether this will continue].
