The latest stimulus discussions include a $300 UI supplement that would be available for 16 weeks. This is how I see it could benefit laid off full time workers in Oregon.
A. At $300 per week unemployed full time worker would receive $4,800 in additional income over 16 weeks (assuming the worker has 16 weeks of regular benefits remaining). So, for every 100,000 full time laid off workers, $480 Million in gross income would be added in Oregon over 16 weeks.
B. For Oregon workers whose full time wages were less than or equal to $44,570 the $300 supplement would replace 100% or more of income. This would help a substantial share of workers in the hard hit leisure and hospitality industries.
The table pasted below shows that calculation. In a future post I anticipate illustrating the impact for unemployed employees who are participating in workshare plans.
