As add on to prior post with Oregon and Portland metro CITY population change estimates for 2000,2008, and 2009 pasted below are estimates of population change for other select Oregon cities; note that City of BEND added the most people from 2000-2009, but with growth slowing to less than 1,000 from 2008-2009.

City Population Estimates Released; Portland Metro-Hillsboro Added 32% More Peeps than Portland 2000-2009.

Pasted below are my calculations of population growth for selected Portland Metro cities. I calculate that Hillsboro added 32% MORE population than did the City of Portland from 2000-2009! (47,942/36,220-1=32%)

Oregon Population Change Excel Lookup Tool Includes Minority and Ethnic Pop Change Data.

I have constructed a powerful new Excel 2007 look up tool as a workbook HERE. (To allow maximum columns, file is formatted as landscape, legal size; file is called a look up because it extracts correct values for selections you make in each row from a hidden list of more than 3,800 possible values).

This tool focuses on Oregon county level population CHANGE from 2008-2009 and from 2000-2009, INCLUDING change by race and ethnicity; this is a subset of the consolidated Oregon county population table that I just posted as a 16 page PDF file (my prior post about that file is HERE).  

(NOTE: This new tool was created in Excel 2007 format.Some users report when they save Excel 2007 files they end up with a compressed .zip file extension. My suggestion is to RIGHT CLICK and save the file to your PC. Then navigate to the file you downloaded and look at its file extension. IF it appears as .ZIP extension, change the .ZIP extension to Excel 2007 extension (.xlsx), and THEN open the file with Excel 2007. [Please, no whining about not using Excel 1997 format, peeps, Excel 2010 is coming out this week!]).

My READ ME worksheet in this workbook explains what this tool can do, and the source of the data:

1.This workbook allows easy comparisons of Oregon County level population CHANGES from 2008-2009 and from 2000-2009.                   
2.Users can select ANY combination of race and county in first two columns and values for Total Population Change, Hispanic Population Change, Non Hispanic Population Change, and Hispanic Share of Total Population are then returned in the columns to the right.          
3.Default selection is for Oregon metro counties, first for "All Races", and then for "White alone", but the user may substitute for the default selections ANY combination of race and counties, in ANY order of their choosing.
4.Except for selection of race and county workbook values in first two columns the look up worksheet is password protected to prevent inadvertent data entry. The data source is a June 2010 Census release of 2009 county population estimates.

Oregon 2009 Population Data, Including Race, Ethnicity Shows Continued Population Gains.

I have prepared a PDF table that shows Oregon 2000, 2008, and 2009 population data for ALL Oregon counties that includes race and ethnicity data.  (Census June 2010 PR about 2009 data release is HERE).


The 16 page PDF file/table I constructed is HERE. Pasted below is a STATEWIDE summary that also illustrates all the data fields available and shows totals for ALL races and for Whites alone, with breakouts for Hispanics all races and White alone.

Some observations;

2009-2000 Hispanic Population Grew at a Rate Nearly 9.14 Times the Growth Rate for Non Hispanic Whites; 2008-2009 Growth Ratios Were Somewhat Slower.

• Hispanic population growth for all races grew by 54.1% from 2000-2009 vs 5.9% growth for "White alone" only non Hispanics. This means that Hispanic all population growth was more than 9.1 times the growth rate for "White alone" non Hispanics.
• The 3.8% Hispanic all race growth rate from 2008-2009 was 6.5 times the .6% growth rate for "White alone" non Hispanics, down from the 9.14 ratio from 2000-2009.
• The all race Hispanic share of Oregon population was 8.1% in 2000 vs 11.2% in 2009. 
• All race Hispanics accounted for 38.1% of the state population growth from 2000-2009, slipping slightly to 36.6% of state population growth from 2008-2009.

Census Pop Growth: Bend Only Oregon MSA in Top 20 for 06-07.

The Census Bureau released population growth data for Metro areas (MSA's) today.
I created an Excel workbook HERE which has several worksheets:

1. All MSA data for two time periods 2000-2007 and 2006-2007
2. Oregon only MSA data for the same two time periods

Highlights:

• Bend MSA grew by about 5,000 from 2006-2007. That 3.3% rate of growth ranked 17th. in the country.
• Bend MSA grew by about 39,000 from 2000-2007. That 33.5% rate of growth ranked 5th. in the country
• Portland MSA grew by about 41,000 from 2006-2007. That 1.9% rate of growth ranked 76th. in the country.
• Portland MSA grew by about 250,000 from 2000-2007. That 12.8% rate of growth ranked 84th. in the country.
